Her throne awaits . . . if she can live long enough to take it.
It was on her nineteenth birthday that the soldiers came for Kelsea Glynn. They’d come to escort her back to the place of her birth – and to ensure she survives long enough to be able to take possession of what is rightfully hers.
But like many nineteen-year-olds, Kelsea is unruly, has high principles and believes she knows better than her elders. Unlike many nineteen-year-olds, she is about to inherit a kingdom that is on its knees – corrupt, debauched and dangerous.
Kelsea will either become the most fearsome ruler the kingdom has ever known . . . or be dead within the week.
After hearing many great things about this book, I decided to buy a copy of it for myself and find out what all the fuss was about. Boy, am I glad that I did! Erika Johansen’s writing had me hooked from the very first chapter. While it took me a long time to get through The Queen of the Tearling I read some of it every night and it was a struggle to put it down to sleep.
Kelsea has turned out to be one of my all time favourite Queens. It is her love for books and the written word, and the collection she ends up owning (in a world where books have become a rarity) that stuck with me and made me love her so much. I cannot wait to get stuck into the next in this trilogy so I can watch Kelsea grow more into herself and the role that she was born for.
I take my hat off to you, Erika. Congrats on such an amazing debut, and I cannot wait to see what else you have to bring.
